Good morning everyone.
I would like to inform everyone of some changes to the 2020 Hudson Bay Quest.
Due to major work being done on the Hydro line from Gillam to Mclintock the route has been compromised and will be unsafe to travel on for the Dog teams and the Gillam Rangers. Hydro has advised us that with all the equipment and the state of the trail they would prefer that we do not use it for safety reasons. The primary concern of the HBQ is and always has been the safety of the Mushers and their teams so we have decided to change the route to go from Churchill to Mclintock and back this year.
We will still start the race on Thursday March 19 at 9:30am and it will not change much for the rest of the race other than that the mushers will head back to Churchill after their mandatory rest in Mclintock.
We have the awards banquet in Churchill and not Gillam. We have adjusted the time of the banquet to be on Saturday at 3pm so that the mushers will be able to make the Saturday night train out of Churchill and head home to their Kennels.
We are very disappointed that we will not be able to hold any events in Gillam this year and I thank Delanie Allen and Arnar Palsson for their hard work in setting everything up in Gillam. I also want to thank John, Darren and Mervin in Gillam for all their efforts in trying to help us figure out the Gillam portion of the trail.
If I have learned anything from the amazing mushers that have run this one of a kind race it is that when you are faced with obstacles out on the trail the only way through it is to Adapt, Adjust and Overcome and that goes for the committee as well. We have learned over the years that in order to put this race on we must constantly adjust so this is just another obstacle that we will push through.
I look forward to March 19th and the start of the 2020 race and I hope that everyone will be following along with us.
